Purpose-Built Sharps Processing
Is the Sharps Machine Right for Your Facility?
The San-I-Pak Sharps Machine is designed for facilities that need a controlled method for processing treated sharps containers before final compaction and disposal.
The system uses a high-torque, low-speed process monitored by a programmable logic controller for potential jams or blockages. Processed material is discharged into a cart, which can then be transferred to a compatible compactor.
This provides facilities with a coordinated workflow for reducing treated sharps containers and preparing the resulting material for final compaction.
The Sharps Machine is designed specifically for treated sharps containers.
After treatment, full containers are loaded into the system and mechanically reduced until they are no longer recognizable. The processed material is then discharged into a cart for movement to the compactor.
The unit can be installed either indoors or outdoors, depending on the facility layout and operational requirements.
01. Treatment
Sharps containers must first be treated according to the facility’s approved waste-treatment process.
02. Loading
Full, treated sharps containers are placed into the Sharps Machine.
03. Size Reduction
The high-torque, low-speed system grinds the containers until the material reaches the unrecognizable standard.
04. Monitoring
The PLC monitors the process for blockages and reacts rapidly when resistance is detected.
05. Discharge
Processed material is discharged into a cart.
06. Compaction
The cart can be moved to a compatible compactor for final waste-volume reduction.

Designed to Protect Critical Components
The system continuously monitors the grinding process for jams. According to the equipment catalog, it responds to a blockage within 8/1000 of a second, helping reduce the likelihood of damage to the shredder teeth or system motors.
This monitored response supports more controlled operation when processing dense or irregular treated sharps-container loads.
The Sharps Machine can be installed indoors or outdoors and positioned according to the facility’s treatment workflow, cart access, compactor location, electrical service, and available equipment space.
Its cart-discharge design allows the processed material to be transported from the machine to the facility’s compactor.
